I'm frequently asked how I walk into a co-write session with a superstar like Darius Rucker, Little Big Town, or Lady Antebellum and create songs "on-demand." I didn't start out doing this, but I've learned a few tricks over the years that have allowed me to train my creativity and tap into it whenever and wherever I want- Jack Hanson Vermont. The good news is that you can do it, too! In the songwriting business, these five simple strategies can go a long way.

1. Demonstrate that you are serious about doing business.

Establishing a writing routine demonstrates to yourself and others that you are in your creative zone.
.Not only do you need to teach others when it's appropriate to interrupt your writing and when it's not, but you also need to train your creativity. According to studies, writing at a consistent time each day prepares the subconscious to create more easily "on-demand" than when there is no set routine.

2. Determine when you will be interrupted.

It's fine to check email or social media on occasion, but only when you want to! This means turning off your phone's ringer and turning off those annoying email notifications. Take charge of your surroundings and creative space. Don’t be a slave to interruptions!

3. Avoid checking your email first thing in the morning.

We've all heard it, but how many of us do it? Email is a real addiction, and as a creative person, it is one of the most common ways to start your day off on the wrong foot. When you wake up, your mind is in its most natural creative state. Take advantage of this time to create a new writing reality. Let's put an end to that horrible feeling of knowing we've spent an hour or so refreshing our browsers, checking emails, and scrolling through social media.

4. When it comes to increasing your creativity, there are no wrong notes.

There are no wrong notes once you're in your writing space. Allow yourself to create in a completely non-judgmental environment. Don't be concerned if your piece has too much of this or too little of that. Allow the words and music to flow. Editing will take place later, but not during the creative process- Jack Hanson.
